Seling Bamboo Cluster, Mizoram
Seling bamboo cluster is located in the northern part of Mizoram about 40 Kms from Aizawl, the state capital of Mizoram. The Cluster initially covered the villages of Seling, Tlangnuam and Thingsulthliah, but after initial intervention neighboring villages such as Tuirial, Tuikhurhlu and Sesawng were also covered gradually through skill development programmes.
The units of the cluster is involved in Agarbatti Stick making business and their investment in machinery involves in the range from Rs. 2000/- to Rs. 10000/-. The stick makers in the cluster make agarbatti sticks of 9 inches in size with 1.5mm to 2mm thickness which is the exact requirement of buyers from South India. The sticks are produced in the villages of the cluster and the products are procured by a registered society namely L.Z. Bamboo Processing Society who later on send to the buyers of the other parts of the country.
