Bairabi Bamboo cluster, Kolasib district, Mizoram
Bairabi under Kolasib District is located on the bank of the biggest river in Mizoram, River Tlawng and is situated near the State boundary with Assam. The cluster consists of 11 villages but the main activities of the cluster are concentrated on 5 villages viz. Bairabi, Meidum, Pangbalkawn, Chhimluang and Suarhliap all of which are situated within the radius of 18 kms. The cluster is well connected by the National Highway No 154 and other State highways. Bairabi is the only place in Mizoram connected by railways. The Bairabi Bamboo Cluster has been traditionally engaged in producing bamboo strips, Bamboo furniture, bamboo round & square sticks for making agarbatti sticks, bamboo hats, curtains, traditional baskets etc. In this cluster Both the men and the women folks are equally proficient in bamboo related activities and involved in this traditional activity since time immemorial.
